Week of November 12, 2018

I hope everyone had a great long weekend! Here is what’s happening in fourth grade!

Character Turkey HomeworkHomework is different this week, in honor of Thanksgiving Break next week. Students were given the Character Turkey Packet to complete and hand in on Friday. Students are to brainstorm a way to disguise their Tom Turkey so he won’t be eaten for Thanksgiving! Students were advised to be as creative as possible, using materials from crayons and markers to felt and glitter. Students are to complete the attached diagram and writing assignment that goes along with their Character Turkey. We went over the Character Turkey rubric as a class today so students are aware of what the expectations are for completion. I would love for you to get creative with your child for this homework assignment and I can’t wait to see the awesome and creative disguises on Friday! 🙂

Let me know if there are any questions about what is going on this week and coming up in fourth grade! If I do not see or talk to you before the end of this week, I wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Week of November 5, 2018

Goodbye October, Hello November!

Thank you to everyone that came to check out the awesome Castles and presentation the 4th Graders worked so hard on!

Here’s what’s happening in fourth grade!

4th Grade Conferences!

Alice in Wonderland Field Trip: A group of OTA students, who are in the after school theatre program, will be performing Alice in Wonderland on Tuesday, November 13 for  OTA students at 1:00. With a 1:00 start time, I would like to leave at 12:45. It’s about an hour long, so we’ll be back in plenty of time for dismissal. The performance is at the Mission Hills United Church of Christ located at 4070 Jackdaw Street (only 1.3 miles away). This is a free field trip, that will be a great experience for all of our kids! I will need about 6 parent drivers for this field trip depending on how many students can fit in a car. Please let me know if you are interested and available to chaperone this trip. If you are, please email me and let me know how many students you can fit in your car. Thanks! 🙂

*Also, please send back the signed permission slip for this field trip with your child to school by this Wednesday November 8th.

Shout out to Maria Anning, Matt Covington and Jenny Meyer for helping during our Halloween Party last week and for all the parents who donated supplies to make our treats during the party!

Overall, we had a successful Quarter 1 and I look forward to an even better Quarter 2!

Week of October 29, 2018

Only 2 more days until Halloween and 4 more days until the end of Quarter 1! Here’s what’s happening in 4th grade!
4th Grade Conferences!

Castle PBL PresentationsThe fourth graders have been working really hard to create their own Medieval Castles. They would like to present their creations as well as information about their castles to you on Friday November 2nd from 11:30-12:00. This will be in the form of a gallery walk, meaning there are no set presentation times and parents are free to come and go as they please starting at 11:30. I hope to see you all there! 🙂

Feel free to email me with any questions about what is going on and coming up!

Week of October 22, 2018!

The Jog-a-thon was a huge success for fourth grade! Everyone did an amazing job during our time to run as well as cheering on other classes! (Additional pictures at the bottom of this post)

Parent/Teacher Conferences

With Quarter 1 coming to an end, Parent/Teacher Conferences are now approaching!

Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 7th, 8th, and 9th. Unfortunately, I am unavailable to meet on the last two conference days so I will be opening up times on Monday, November 5th and Tuesday, November 6th to make up conference time. Please use the sign up genius below to schedule a time to meet with me.

As a school, sign up times for conferences will not be available until Monday November 29th. Please do not contact your child’s sibling’s teachers about conference times as they will not be available for you to sign up for just yet. Only times to meet with me are available since I have a different circumstance and want to make sure I meet with any parents that would like to meet with me.

Let me know if there are any questions about 4th grade parent conferences or anything coming up in fourth grade!

Emergency Bags- In preparation for an emergency, OTA is collecting emergency bags for each student. Please start putting together a large plastic bag with: 1 or 2 water bottles, a snack (like a granola bar), and label the outside with your child’s name. These will stay in emergency bins in our classroom. I have already started collecting these and hope to have everyones by next week!
