Parent Foundation
Who is the Foundation?
Officially it’s the Old Town Academy Parent Foundation of Old Town Academy Charter School. Commonly referred to as the Foundation, it’s a volunteer led, non profit organization that supports OTA through community involvement and fundraising. It’s made up of OTA families. If you are a parent or guardian of an OTA student or staff or faculty of OTA you’re a member!What do we do?
The foundation's purpose is to support the school. We do this in a number of ways, including;
- Building community and family involvement through school activities and events,
- Fundraising to support the financial needs of OTA,
- Supporting OTA faculty and staff,
- Identifying unique needs and supporting them, and,
- Enhancing and growing the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curriculum.
How can I get involved?
Donation and Volunteerism comes in many shapes, forms and abilities. The Foundation works with all of them, from OTA parents, students, relatives, and the San Diego community at large. In fact, our OTA Handbook strongly encourages parents to get involved by suggesting a family commitment of 40 hours of OTA Volunteering every school year. Any level of giving, financially or of yourself is welcome and appreciated as there is no better cause than the education of our future generations.Why does OTA need a Foundation?
An OTA education provides a unique experience for our kids. Public school funding doesn’t cover the full cost of each program provided at the school. That leaves a gap and that’s where the foundation comes in. The financial shortfall between what is provided, and what we want for our children and the OTA Experience is something the school relies on the work of the Foundation to help address.
Participate in Foundation Meetings
Our Foundation meeting schedule is now held the first Tuesday of the month at 6pm. Meetings are held on campus with a Zoom alternative. Meetings are open to all foundation members. Our calendar offers all OTA meeting information with zoom details. It also includes all Foundation information for the year.Our leadership positions are decided by election each Spring, and each position is held for a 2-year term. Turnover is encouraged and welcome as fresh ideas, thoughts, and energy are catalysts for improvement. Check out our Foundation Council tab for current openings and to see if there is an area of specific interest. Please reach out to the person in that position as they would love to share about the rewarding opportunity found within leadership of the Foundation!
